ST. JOSEPH’S WARD

About the patron

Saint Joseph, a simple carpenter, the earthly father of Jesus and Virgin Mary’s husband, was a just man, who was always obedient to God - in marrying Mary, in naming Jesus, in shepherding the precious pair to Egypt, in bringing them to Nazareth, in the undetermined number of years of quiet faith and courage.

As per the gospels of Matthew his lineage can be traced back to King David and because of this ancestry, St. Joseph, is the linkage between the old covenant made with Abraham and Moses, and the new, perfect, and everlasting covenant which made through the blood of Jesus.

Saint Joseph is the patron saint of the dying because, he died with Jesus and Mary close to him, the way we all would like to leave this earth. Saint Joseph is also the patron saint of the Universal Church, families, fathers, expectant mothers, travelers, immigrants, house sellers and buyers, craftsmen, engineers, and working people in general. We celebrate two feast days for Saint Joseph: March 19 for Joseph, the Husband of Mary and May 1 for Joseph, the Worker.

Pope Pius XII established the Feast of "St. Joseph the Worker" to be celebrated on May 1 (International Workers' Day) and is believed to reflect Joseph's status as the patron of workers.

Prayer

Saint Joseph, patron of the universal Church, watch over the Church as carefully as you watched over Jesus, help protect it and guide it as you did with your adopted son. Amen
