ABOUT PITHRUVEDI

Pithruvedhi is an association for all the married members of our Parish. This association was conceived by all Bangalore based Syro Malabar Churches in August 2014. When Mandya dioceses was constituted, Pithruvedhi was implemented at a diocese level.

In our Parish, Pithruvedhi was constituted on October 2014. From an initial unit of 135 members, it has grown exponentially with more than 300 members. Our Pithruvedhi unit is the biggest such unit in Mandya dioceses

St Joseph, the most Holy Spouse, is the patron for Pithruvedhi. True to the characteristics of its patron saint, Pithruvedhi strives to inculcate the importance of being selfless, family centric and leading the family in life of prayer and worship

Like all the other diocesan organizations, there is a central committee governing the functions, conceptualizing and implementing projects. This central committee is headed by non-other than our beloved Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Roy Vattakunnel.

Pithruvedhi day is celebrated on November 01 across the diocese. On this day, all the units and members from various parishes gather at a common place for a day-long event. Eminent personalities and clergy share their experiences and stress the importance of prayers, leading a pious life and parenting challenges especially in rapidly changing environment of today. We hosted a Pithruvedhi dinam in 2016, which was a resounding success.

On the feast of St. Joseph (March 19) or the following Sunday, apart from celebrating the feast, we also felicitate couples who are celebrating their milestone anniversaries (5 years and in multiples of 5) and provide ‘Oottunercha’ for our Parishioners.

Apart from helping other pious organizations, festal arrangements, Pithruvedhi participates in charity activities and relief operations during natural calamities.

A feather in our cap was when our Pithruvedhi unit raised the highest contributions for donating a Dialysis machine to JMJ Hospital, Nagavara to provide free dialysis for the needy.

In 2018 and 2019, our home state was devastated by unnatural floods that caused widespread damage to livestock and shattered many lives. Our unit took initiative to send truckloads of relief material to these affected areas and participated in the relief operations planned and executed at the diocesan level. We take pride in the fact that we contributed towards the central team’s initiative of rebuilding 4 new houses for deserving and marginalized families affected by floods

We also organize pilgrimage to Velankani, Malayatoor, and Holy Land. Every year prior to Christmas, we conduct Christmas Carol competition for various wards. Such events promote participation from all ward members and sets the tone for season of joy. During this period, we also sell Cakes, decorative items and use the proceeds for our charitable initiatives.

We have also initiated several programs in the Parish such as Chenda classes and we are proud of the fact that we have an in-house Chenda Melam team, who are sought after from other Churches and associations. In 2019, we also held the first ever Onachanda, where we facilitated the sale of good quality groceries and provisions from our home state.

We also reward and recognize our Catechism students by virtue of providing a scholarship to the top scorers in Catechism exams. Recently, we have started a recreational club to enable everyone in our Parish participate in activities during the leisure time. In future, we will be adding more activities/indoor games in our recreational club

If you are not a member of Pithruvedhi, what are you waiting for? Get in touch with our Secretary and be a part of the ever enthusiastic, youthful and cheerful association.

We are grateful to God our Heavenly Father, Fr. Roy Vattakunnel and our Parishioners for their unstinted support and cooperation which has always ensured that the Pitruvedhi of St. Alphonsa Forane Church is the ‘Best in the Diocese.’
